The Present Doesn’t Equal The Past

Posted in artist spotlight, the grind on June 26th, 2009 by Joe Wize

Working with Eve Soto last night on a remake of an old track called “Baby Luv” we came upon a conversations on how we’re approaching making music compared to the way we did it in the past. It seems in the past, while trying to approach the labels, they’d want a song similar to what ever was popular at the time. So we’d rush and get a track half ass finished and it would sound great but it sounded to much like that popular artist or hit at the time. I hated doing stuff like that because it never showed our true work.

Now we don’t care! We’re doing it for the love and because we love music. The material is coming out ridiculously crazy hot! It doesn’t sound like anyone and it’s unique. I can’t wait for all of you to enjoy it. Because all of you who know Eve Soto you know what her voice sounds like and whats she’s capable of.

She’ll be releasing her debut album on Indiggo Child Music in September 2009

My Relationship With My Father

Obama With Baby

Obama With Baby

I can only remember being close to my dad when I was real young something like 9 or 10. Ya see he got the alcohol sickness and then he started to lose his mind. You ever had a person that you cared about so deeply that you just had to keep your distance so you wouldn’t get hurt? Yep that’s the relationship that I had with my father. Yea we had great times we were young, my family that is, but once that sickness came he sort of went into his own world. A very abusive world that was physical and mental.

I respect fathers out there that nurture, build and support their kids life from the time they come in to this world and all throughout their life. It’s how it should be! Unfortunately I’ve missed out on that relationship and I think it may have an affect my relationships today to which I still deal with it. But at least I understand what’s going on. A lot of people don’t and let their situations go down the drain because they don’t know what’s affecting them. I don’t hold a grudge like I use to, about my father, but I’m still very protective and selective of who gets close to me. Because letting someone get close is giving them the power to hurt in my book. But now and then I do try.

Anyhow Peace!

Key steps to lookout for when recording multiple tracks of stacking vocals?

The process of stacking vocals is used in most of the music you hear on the radio today. It’s a good way of creating a natural stereo and depth in your mix. Here are a few things from my experience to look out for.

1. Make sure that each tracks starts and ends at the same time.

There’s nothing more frustrating than having everything in key but the artist holds the notes at different lengths.

2. Make sure that all the tracks have all the same exact feel unless you are doing something on purpose.

If one is was sung low and the hard, or soft and aggressive, or childlike and deep opera like it will be very difficult to mix in the end.

3. Make sure that all the tracks are in the right key and in key?

Keep in mind that when some notes are hit they are very close but still may be out. You might be able to let these go if you stack enough tracks but I suggest you rerecord them. Train your ears so you know if two different pitches are the same or out. You may want to watch a guitar player tune his guitar to get the concept.

When two keys are the same you won’t hear to many sound waves if any, you’ll just hear one long one. It sounds like a repeating sound wave when notes are out. You should apply this to each of the vocals and to the vocals placed in the music because they all go together.

Overall these steps would be a good place to start when recording your next hit record.
